Empowering “Wise Educators” & Community Leaders
Across communities and classrooms, educators play a quiet yet powerful role in shaping how young people understand themselves, their cultures, and the world around them. Yet many passionate educators eager to nurture wisdom and community knowledge often lack the resources or support to bring such transformative learning to life. Recognizing this need — and the opportunity to uplift those already carrying deep potential — Project FUEL created a new initiative to help educators turn lived experiences into tools for collective learning and change.
Earth Company provided a US$3,000 grant to Impact Heroes 2024 cohort member Deepak Ramola, founder of Project FUEL, to implement The Open Studio — a creative initiative designed to preserve lived experiences through storytelling. The program offered a nurturing space where educators could reflect, experiment, and turn community wisdom into tangible educational tools.
Over two months, the Studio brought together 12 educators and community leaders from across India, guiding them through Project FUEL’s signature methodology of Harvest–Play–Present. The result: a collection of storybooks, learning resources, and shared practices that not only elevated local voices, but also strengthened classrooms and communities through creativity, empathy, and cultural pride.

Deepak Ramola, a wisdom historian and educator, weaves a tapestry of lifelong learning. A Harvard GSE alum, he served as UNESCO MGIEP’s Kindness Ambassador. Deepak’s journey began at 14, inspired by his mother’s wisdom of ”Life is a classroom”, shaping Project FUEL’s unique approach to education. Project FUEL pioneers a transformative educational approach, gathering and archiving ”life lessons” from real experiences. Channeling this wisdom, they address social issues, while emphasizing well-being. This innovative method imparts essential life skills crucial for crafting not only a livelihood but also a fulfilling life.
For 13 years, Deepak’s Project FUEL collected life lessons from 195 countries, recognized globally as a top 100 innovator in education and has been adopted globally across five continents. With a focus on well-being education, he imparts life skills to 400,000+ people worldwide, building richer lives and meaningful livelihoods.
Transforming Wisdom Into Learning Tools That Reach Classrooms and Communities
Through Earth Company’s support, the Open Studio guided 12 educators and community leaders through Project FUEL's Harvest–Play–Present methodology, enabling them to capture community wisdom and translate it into creative educational materials. Over the two months, participants authored eight illustrated storybooks, three of which were translated into local languages to increase cultural accessibility. These resources, co-created using generative AI, weave together ecological knowledge, traditions, and lived realities, offering students learning rooted in their own contexts.
The program’s impact quickly extended beyond the Studio. Participants began hosting story-reading circles, reflective sessions, and community dialogues—such as Archana’s reading for 96 kindergarten students and Neelashi’s circle at the Tushita Meditation Centre. At the Almora Literature Festival, Project FUEL introduced the methodology to educators nationwide through a workshop and its interactive Wise Space installation, engaging over 100 visitors and catalyzing new interest in story-based learning across schools.
Building Long-Term Capacity for Cultural Documentation and Creative Education
Beyond immediate outputs, the Open Studio sparked a deeper shift in how educators see themselves and their role in preserving cultural heritage. Participants reported renewed confidence as storytellers and facilitators of reflective learning. For example, Kankana, working with more than 500 students, finally brought to life a story she had held for 11 years and is now establishing a Wisdom Lab at her school to embed FUEL’s methodology into everyday learning.
The Open Studio also began influencing organizational practices: Shrutika adapted the Harvest–Play–Present framework for staff onboarding at her nonprofit, strengthening community relationships and nurturing a culture centered on empathy and lived experience. As the program concluded, Project FUEL developed a dedicated course on cultural documentation, signaling a major step toward scaling the methodology and ensuring that creative wisdom-driven learning continues far beyond the Studio.
