Earth Company honors the cultural heritage of Bali through the ethos of Mana Earthly Paradise. Its design responds to the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—harmony between people, gods and nature. and has manifested into five guiding principles: Be organic, Be eco, Be ethical, Be social, and Be local.
Earth Company Partners With The Long Run
The Long Run is one of the world’s largest sustainable development movements led by nature-based businesses. It started out as an initiative of the Zeitz Foundation, founded by celebrated philanthropist Jochen Zeitz. Today, it is an independent UK-based charity that collectively with its members helps conserve over 20-million-acres of biodiversity and improves the lives of 750,000 people.
As an Affiliate Member, we share the same drive to support sustainable, ecologically and socially responsible projects through the 4Cs — Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce.
Earth Company partners with The Long Run to create a world in which Business, Nature and People are working together for a sustainable future.
CONSERVATION
Biodiversity is life. Conservation is safeguarding this biodiversity and the integrity of the ecosystem services it provides which support global needs.
As a Long Runner, we support the sustainable use of natural resources by adapting circular design and eco-practices at Mana Earthly Paradise, our next generation eco-hotel in Ubud, Bali.
COMMUNITY
People matter; it is the right of every person to have their basic needs met and enhancing the well-being of communities is a fundamental obligation of all.
Earth Company actively partners with local community projects, such as FoodComa, Plastic Exchange Bali, and The Togetherness Project Bali to host markets and events to support local vendors and communities whose livelihood was hit by the Covid pandemic. We also host fundraising events for local NGOs, including Bumi Sehat that offers free healthcare services to disadvantaged communities in Bali and Ranu Welum that empowers indigenous Dayak youth to act on social justice, indigenous rights, and the protection of Kalimantan forests.
Our latest community initiative is “Mana School”, an educational program aiming to engage local children around Mana Earthly Paradise to raise awareness around sustainable living and to nurture the next generation eco-citizens. Every Sunday, we offer English and sustainability lessons to local primary school students taking Mana’s various eco-practices as examples.
CULTURE
Our world is culturally diverse. Celebrating commonality is what nurtures understanding. Respecting difference is crucial to our future. Our ability to innovate and evolve is what makes us uniquely human. Drawing on our uniqueness we enrich each other and contribute to a greater common good.
We also strengthen intercultural relationships and understanding through our Impact Bali Program, which offers transformative, experiential opportunities to professionals and students from around the world to learn sustainability and social innovation projects in Bali.
COMMERCE
This dimension addresses the sustainability of commercial operations recognising the intricate link between profit, natural and social assets.
We recognize that business can be a force for good and profit can and should go hand in hand with productive ecosystems, and prosperous communities.
We set foot to achieve this through Mana Earthly Paradise, which not only creates an ecologically and socially regenerative model but also economically. It sets to exemplify a truly circular economy where “the more profits businesses make, the better the world would become”.
Moreover, the profits of Mana are channeled to support Earth Company’s Impact Heroes Program which brings critical resources and services to inspiring change-makers in the Asia Pasific.
We are excited to continue our journey of creating a world that can be passed onto future generations with the Long Run community. By joining the movement, we have committed to a continuous improvement towards excellence in sustainability by achieving a balance in the 4Cs — Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce.
